Little Sprouts Connects Music and Education
Little Sprouts Builds the Relationship Between Music, Education and Family by Incorporating Music into the Daily Curriculum
Merrimack Valley, MA, October 14, 2008 – Walk into an infant room in one of the Little Sprouts’ schools and you will see babies clapping and shaking their shakers with the new music teacher. Wyndy Jones travels to each of the schools to engage children, teachers, and families in the FUNdamentals of Music and Movement program. This program teaches children and their parents engaging songs, expressive dances, and a variety of musical instruments. Children are also learning music theory lessons and are participating in a variety of yoga and dance moves. "I am thrilled to be joining the Little Sprouts team to bridge the FUNdamentals curriculum with the enriching curriculum that is already in place,” noted Teacher Wyndy. “I am glad to be part of an organization that understands the importance of music as a fundamental part of our children's growth, learning, and development. Let’s get moving and grooving! "
Did you know?
- People who study music before the age of 7 have been shown to have a planum temporal- the region on the brain’s left side that processes sound signals, particularly language- three times the average size (Schlaug, G., 1995).
- Listening to or recalling lyrics invokes language centers in the temporal and frontal lobes. (Levitin, Daniel. This is your Brain on Music, 2006)
- Music enhances linguistic skills. Music -- specifically song -- is one of the best training grounds for babies learning to recognize the tones that add up to spoken language. (Trehubn, S., 1997).

About FUNdamentals of Music and Movement: Our vision is that children who participate in our programs will blossom into confident, creative, and success. It is our belief that children age’s infant-5 years old are a critical time in a child’s development. Children at this age are able to easily master skills that will last a lifetime. Studies show that children who practice artistic training also obtain increased skills in mathematics, science, and second-language comprehension.
