Maureen Bly

48+ Years in Early Education

Maureen has been with Little Sprouts since 2005, starting as an Executive Director. She began her career as a preschool teacher for 13 years, then worked as a Para-professor in the Merrimack Public School district for five years. She later directed a Head Start program for 11 years, during which she earned her bachelor's degree in early childhood education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. With extensive experience and exceptional communication and leadership skills, Maureen successfully manages a fully enrolled school and dedicated staff.

Mackenzie George

With Little Sprouts Since 2015

Mackenzie began her career as an intern from Whittier Tech High School. After graduating in 2018, she became an infant teacher for three years while earning her associate degree in early childhood education from Northern Essex Community College. She then attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she earned her bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in early childhood education in 2023. During this time, Mackenzie worked as a preschool teacher and Health and Safety Coordinator. In 2025, she earned her master's degree in early childhood education from Worcester State University and advanced her career by becoming the assistant director in Amesbury.

Shannon Joyal

With Little Sprouts since 2016

Shannon started as a preschool teacher at Little Sprouts Melrose. She then moved to Little Sprouts Amesbury, where she taught preschool for four years before becoming an infant teacher and the Health and Safety Coordinator. Shannon holds an associate degree in early childhood education from Bunker Hill Community College and is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies with a focus on early childhood education at UMass Amherst.

At Little Sprouts Amesbury, we follow small-group ratios that help teachers build meaningful connections with each child. Our infant classroom typically has up to 10 children with a 1:3 teacher-to-child ratio. Toddler classrooms follow a 1:4 ratio, with up to 9 children in each room. Preschool classrooms have a 1:10 ratio and can enroll up to 20 children, and our kindergarten classroom also serves up to 20 children with a 1:10 ratio.

Our school has two age-appropriate playgrounds with brand-new equipment and materials. The toddler playground is designed for children 15 months to 2.9 years old, and the preschool playground supports children from 2.9 to 6 years old. Both spaces give children room to move, explore, and build skills safely outdoors.

We stay closely connected with families through open communication, weekly and monthly newsletters, and regular NSP surveys. Throughout the year, we host family events such as open houses, Grandparents’ Tea, Muffins with Mom, Donuts with Dad, and ice cream socials.

We are conveniently located on Sparhawk Street/Route 150, just outside downtown Amesbury. Families are welcome to park in our on-site parking lot or in the church parking lot across the street during drop-off and pick-up. Both options offer convenient access to the school.
